Design, synthesis, processing and characterization of functional polymers to tailor the microstructure for designated properties. Systems that undergo self-assembly in different length scale including block copolymers and liquid crystalline polymers are of special interest. Organic/inorganic and organic/organic nano-composites of block polymers with controllable microstructure are also studied. Synthetic tools include living polymerization methods such as anionic, ATRP and living radical polymerization. Evaluation of the microstructure include TEM, AFM as well as synchrotron based SAXS and WAXS.
