演講摘要:

In nature, water has been used as an active substrate to operate the microscopic motions and functions of biomolecules. However, the active roles of water in the supramolecular chemistry of synthetic molecules have not yet been widely explored. In this presentation, water is applied as an active substrate to activate the self-assembly and function of amphiphilic discotic molecules (ADMs). The water-induced self-assembly (WISA) of the ADMs resulted in the formation of adaptive artificial water channels (aAWC) in the bulk phase, where the dynamic incorporation/removal of water results in the reversible assembly/disassembly of the aAWCs. Moreover, well-oriented aAWC array can be easily prepared by using water as the orientation-directional agent. The oriented aAWC array delivered thickness-normalized water permeability comparable to previously reported AWC materials. In WISA, water thus governs the supramolecular chemistry and function of the ADM as it does with natural materials.
