演講題目:Towards Fast-charging and Safe Lithium-ion Batteries

演講摘要:

The development of lithium-ion batteries capable of extreme fast charging (XFC) is essential for advancing electric vehicle adoption. However, XFC faces significant challenges, particularly the undesirable deposition of metallic lithium on the graphite anode, which degrades capacity and poses serious safety risks. Characterizing lithium plating is difficult due to lithium’s sensitivity to oxygen and water, small feature sizes, and the complex morphology of porous electrodes and deposits.
In this talk, I will introduce our operando studies of lithium plating, utilizing single-particle graphite nanoplatelets with well-defined geometry to investigate the growth of the solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) and lithium deposition mechanisms. These insights inform the design of a single-component artificial SEI, improving lithium-ion battery cycling performance at high rates. Additionally, I will discuss our work combining interconnected ceramics with polymer to design high-conductivity solid-state electrolytes, advancing safer lithium-ion battery technologies.
