Qualifying Examination for International Doctoral Degree Students (PDF)

There are two options for taking the qualifying examination for international doctoral degree students as described below.

Option 1:

The student submits a written progress report including his/her proposed future research to the Department Curriculum Committee for review. The committee will determine whether the student passes or fails the qualifying examination upon reviewing his/her progress report. The thesis advisor(s) of the student in question is (are) excluded from the Department Curriculum Committee. This option must be taken within two years of entering the program.

Option 2:

International doctoral students can choose to fulfill the same requirements on qualifying examination as those for local doctoral students. See Academic Regulations for Doctoral Degree Students for detailed information.
