演講摘要

Ferromagnetic Galfenol alloy is known to be a magnetostrictive material, which can find many applications as the core material in a sensor, damper, or actuator device.In this talk, I shall first introduce the experimental measuring methods on the magneto-mechanical (or magneto-elastic) properties, such as magnetostriction (λ), Young's modulus(E), shear modulus (G), and/or damping capacity (ΔW/W) as a function of external magnetic field (H), respectively, of several kinds of Galfenol samples in a bulk or thin-film form.Second, I would like to discuss the relationship between the structural and magneto-mechanical properties of the alloy: based on the X-ray, TEM, MTG, DSC, and neutron scattering analyses.Third, I shall mention a few theoretical equations often used in studying the magneto-mechanical properties of a ferromagnetic metal.Finally, I like to compare the experimental results from this work with the theoretical predictions.
